Counting of the Omer

According to the Torah (Lev. 23:15), we are obligated to count the days from Passover to Shavu'ot. The counting is intended to remind us of the link between Passover, which commemorates the Exodus, and Shavu'ot, which commemorates the giving of the Torah. It reminds us that the redemption from slavery was not complete until we received the Torah.

"Today is twenty-four days, which is three weeks and three days of the Omer."
Additional information on counting of the Omer can be found on the URJ website, Wikipedia, or by emailing Rabbi Winer at rabbi@bethemek.org.

Rabbi Rick

Welcome to Beth Emek.

I hope you will enjoy our community as much as I do. I was raised just up the road in Concord in a very similar community to our own here in the Tri-Valley. I have found a thriving, vibrant Jewish atmosphere here at Beth Emek.

Please join us as we celebrate Judaism and all our Tradition has to offer.
