Dear <teacher/coach/band director>

I just wanted to let you know that <my child> will soon be celebrating the upcoming Jewish holy days of  Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year), beginning Wednesday evening, September 12 through September 14 and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), beginning Friday evening, September 21 through September 22.  These holidays are known as the High Holy Days and are the most sacred days of the Jewish year.  A significant part of the commemoration of these holy days is refraining from work. Because of this, <my child> will not be able to <do any homework / participate in practice /rehearse> while s/he is out and will need catch-up time, similar to if s/he were out for an illness or other excused absence.

<My child> should be letting you know s/he’ll be out on these days and I will be calling the attendance office but I just wanted to give you a little more detail to why s/he’ll be out.  I appreciate your understanding and if you have any questions, please let me know.

Regards,
